										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you ever experienced a symptom or condition related to hormonal imbalance like mood swings, brain fog, PMS, PMDD, endometriosis, infertility, irregular periods, fibroids, night sweats, hot flashes, low libido, acne, PCOS, etc, only to be given “solutions” like Hormone Replacement Therapy or some sort of birth control without your practitioner ever truly identifying and addressing the deeper root causes at play?</p>



<p>I went through this for years. I dealt with amenorrhea, irregular periods, ovarian cysts. and estrogen dominance. OB-GYNs, nurses, and even functional MDs provided me with countless different options for contraceptives, as well as progesterone cream, without actually taking the time to get to the root causes problems at hand.&nbsp;</p>



<p>And I see this time and time again in my clinic. My clients come to me having had previous practitioners who got so dialed in on hormone replacement therapy, birth control, and even some natural hormone-supporting supplements or nutritional modifications that emphasized the macro and micronutrients that best support hormonal balance…but <em>ultimately ignored the toxins that actually disrupt their hormones. </em>So they are months, or typically years, into those treatments/protocols and they’re STILL not feeling better.</p>



<p>An important piece of the hormone health conversation pertains to the hormone-disrupting toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis. And if we don’t start making them part of mainstream medical conversations, both women AND men are going to have a hard time finding any type of true hormonal balance.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Xenoestrogens, toxins that have estrogen-mimicking effects, are some of the biggest influencers in hormonal imbalance. They can be found in plastics, pesticides, insecticides, parabens in our personal care products, petrochemicals in our tap water, phthalates in our food packaging, and more. But one of the xenoestrogens I see talked about the least but influences my clients the most is MOLD with estrogenic properties!</p>



<p><strong>Mold &amp; Your Hormones</strong></p>



<p><em>I remember a few years ago, I ran a Mycotoxin (mold toxin) Urinalysis Panel on my one client, Katie, as we were running several functional medicine labs to better identify the root causes of her chronic fatigue, brain fog, bloating, and mold swings. As we were reviewing her results that showed several elevated mycotoxins, she shared with me that her previous practitioner (who was also in the functional medicine space) told her that it would be “impossible” for her to have mycotoxins in her system. My client had been struggling for years with her chronic health challenges, suspecting that there may be mold in her condo that was contributing to her issues, but her previous practitioner gaslit her into thinking that there was NO WAY mold could be an issue.</em></p>



<p><strong>Let’s take the mycotoxin, Zearalenone, for example.</strong></p>



<p>Zearalenone (ZEA) is technically an estrogenic mycotoxin, meaning it mimics estrogen and can actually bind to the SAME receptors as estrogen can… that’s a problem! ZEA is a food-prone mold toxin found in maize and other cereal crops such as barley, oats, rice, sorghum, rye, and wheat (note: whether a food is organic or not, it can still have mold).&nbsp;</p>



<p>ZEA exposure has been tied to<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6305301/"> infertility, bleeding problems, immune and endocrine system issues</a>, and beyond.&nbsp;</p>



<p>In vivo studies have shown how ZEA can <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9002168/">influence ovulation rates in animals</a>.</p>



<p>ZEA has also been found to have the<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0147651322006662"> potential to cause cell proliferation in women with endometriosis</a> who do not have sufficient estrogen levels. It can potentially exacerbate the condition by “stepping in” with its own estrogenic properties, binding to estrogen receptors, and worsening the condition.</p>



<p>And ZEA is just ONE type of mycotoxin. Mold exposure as a whole also impairs liver function, one of the primary organs responsible for healthy hormone metabolism.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Estrogen dominance, an incredibly common condition among women it today’s world, is also linked to mold, leading to symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, anxiety, depression, bloating, mood swings, hair loss, insomnia, low libido, and more. You likely have a congested liver with impaired function due to toxins like mold and other environmental toxins, and some sludgy bile affecting hormone metabolite excretion and detox as a whole!</p>



<p><strong>So why are the majority of practitioners failing to even consider mold as a potential root cause?</strong></p>



<p>We can thank our conventional medicine education system for that! Unfortunately, even though the studies are out there, it takes an average of 17 years from the time a study is done until its actually put into conventional medicine practice. <p><em>I dealt with it all for 20+ YEARS!</em></p>

<p>Not a single general practitioner, infectious disease specialist, or gastroenterologist in the mainstream medical system brought up any of the <em>root causes</em> (that I share below) as potential variables for my gut issues. Not one.</p>



<p>Some claimed that my gut problems were probably just “<em>genetic</em>” because several of my other family members had gut issues. Dad has IBS so it’s “normal” for me to deal with it too?</p>



<p>[Insert permanent eye roll here].</p>



<p>What’s crazy is that, when several family members deal with the same symptoms, most practitioners will default to the “it’s just genetic” response. Never was it considered that maybe numerous family members would experience similar symptoms and be diagnosed with similar conditions because they have common toxic exposures or other lifestyle and environmental factors that manifest as similar health challenges.</p>



<p>The mainstream medical system isn’t talking about how using the same toxic household products, drinking the same toxic tap water, eating the same foods drenched in glyphosate and pesticides, having the same stress management techniques (or lack thereof) and refusing to resolve generational trauma, etc can all be at the root of what appear to be “genetic” issues. <p>But if it wasn’t the “genetics” response that practitioners were feeding me, it’s like they didn’t give me any reasoning at all! buThey quickly gave me some type of over-the-counter medication, resorting to the easy one-size-fits-all strategy based on a pill for every ill.</p>



<h6 class="wp-block-heading"><strong><em>Name it, blame it, and tame it, as they say….</em></strong></h6>



<p>Slamming Kaopectate, Imodium, Tums, Gaviscon, Nexium, and making sure that I knew where the closest bathroom was the only “solution” presented by all the doctors I paid my time, money, and energy to in the conventional medicine space</p>



<p>Even in my beginning years in the functional medicine space, I’d receive a diagnosis of SIBO or Leaky gut, but we never REALLY got to the root of WHY my small intestinal bacteria were even overgrown, or WHY my gut was leaky, or WHY the candida / yeast infections continued to be a problem despite treatment.</p>



<p>That’s what keeps us STUCK. Can you relate? Getting a diagnosis but still never getting to the root of the issue?</p>



<p>I’m here to extend a virtual hug and remind you that you do NOT have to live this way. I pray that you can leverage my decades of personal experience, research, testing, constantly digging deeper to trust in the fact that this does not have to be your fate. You do not just need to “accept” your gut issues.</p>



<p>Below are 5 major examples of root causes to gut issues that most practitioners will never talk about. By no means is this an exhaustive list! But this will give you initial insight regarding some of the many root cause variables at play!&nbsp;</p>



<h6 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5 Root Causes Linked To Gut Issues like IBS, SIBO, Leaky Gut, &amp; More!</strong></h6>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Glyphosate.</strong> A widely used pesticide/herbicide that kills more than just weeds. It’s the key ingredient in weedkillers like Roundup and many lawn and garden treatments. It is linked to gut permeability, gut dysbiosis, Celiac disease, anxiety, cramps, diarrhea, cancer, and countless other health issues. And they’re spraying it right on our food. It is commonly found in any food that contains GMOs, high fructose corn syrup, corn, soy, etc. But fruits, veggies, grains and conventional meats and dairy can be filled with it too (This is a huge reason I urge clients to buy organic as much as possible). It gets in our water supply. It ends up in our personal care products like tampons or anything containing cotton.&nbsp;</li>



<li><strong>Mercury.</strong> And other heavy metals can cause intestinal microbial disorders, abnormal metabolite production, tight junction damage (hello leaky gut), and immune responses in the gut. On top of that mood swings, depression, mental health challenges, balance issues, insomnia, etc are also some top signs of mercury in your body.</li>



<li><strong>Mycotoxins. </strong>These are toxic compounds that mold releases! Mycotoxins can often be found in corn, nuts, barley, rice, and even in most coffees and wines! You can also get exposure from living in a water damaged building that’s been contaminated with mold. Mycotoxins can cause perturbation in the gut, particularly in the intestinal epithelial (ruins the integrity of the gut). Other symptoms of mycotoxins can include: chronic fatigue and headaches, itchy and painful skin rashes, anxiety, autoimmune diseases, neurological issues, and suppressed immune function.</li>



<li><strong>BPA. </strong>Bisphenol A is mostly found in plastics (think: water bottles, Tupperware, home water pipes, ziploc bags, saran wrap, etc.). It activates the innate immune response by inducing oxidative stress, which leads to the damaging or killing of healthy cells — ultimately disrupting the intestinal barrier function.</li>



<li><strong>Chronic and acute stress. </strong>During times of stress, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) is released from the hypothalamus— your body&#8217;s smart control coordinating center that influences your autonomic nervous system and hormones! It then disrupts the gastrointestinal (GI) system and leads to gut microbiota dysbiosis (your body’s gut barrier) that can negatively impact your immune system and metabolism (weight loss functionality).</li>
</ol>



<p>This will increase the risk of functional gastrointestinal diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome. CRF also increases oxidative damage to the colon and triggers immune responses involving mast cells, neutrophils (your body’s first line of immune system defense), and monocytes (your body’s natural ability to destroy germs, viruses, bacteria, etc.).</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Fact</strong>: So many of us get so wrapped up in the next best supplement, therapy, and biohack that we often overlook the <strong>FREE resources/methods</strong> to healing that are right in front of our faces.</p>



<p>Are supplements valuable? Absolutely.</p>



<p>Are protocols like coffee enemas and castor oil packs supportive of your healing? Of course.</p>



<p>Can red light therapy, sauna, ozone treatments, etc help move the needle forward when it comes to optimizing your health. Yes!</p>



<p>But let’s not undervalue the resources and lifestyle changes that we can make for free in the process. Oftentimes, we see clients disregard totally these things <em>because</em> they are free. It’s like we subconsciously think that we can’t possibly get <strong>THAT </strong>much value from them unless they have a price tag.</p>



<p>Healing isn’t about finding that one special supplement or protocol that will “save” you or that next level biohack that will be the end-all-be-all for your healing. The things that I see<strong> TRULY compound over time</strong>, playing some of the most influential roles in a client’s healing, are these very things I’m about to share with you.&nbsp;</p>

<h6 class="wp-block-heading has-text-color" style="color:#eb4bd6"><strong>So here 6 FREE resources you can leverage RIGHT NOW to support your healing. I’d start by picking 1-2 to focus on over the next 2 weeks as you begin to really prioritize these foundations:</strong></h6>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Be asleep by 10pm-10:30pm or as close to it as possible to help optimize circadian rhythm and get the most restorative sleep.&nbsp;</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>It’s not just a matter of sleeping 7.5-9 hours a night. But the time frame in which you get those hours of sleep matters. The body has its most restorative sleep when we are asleep by 10-10:30pm (are our melatonin levels rise and our cortisol levels dip). Waking up around 6/7am, or with the sun, helps to align our bodies with a more natural sleep/wake cycle! Of course, “life is life”, and this may not work absolutely perfectly for you! But aim for this general time frame as much as possible.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
</li>



<li><strong>Limit social media time &amp; audit who you follow.</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Unfollow or “snooze” any accounts that do anything other than support your health, personal development, or bring you joy. If an account and their content contain negativity, constantly address topics that bring you stress, cause you to feel bad about yourself, or get you to fall in the comparison trap, it’s time to clean house!</li>
</ul>
</li>



<li><strong>Schedule in “Recovery Periods”.</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Despite what our culture may encourage, rest and relaxation are medicinal. Burnout is not a badge of honor. If you don’t choose a rest day for yourself, your body will choose it FOR you. You’re allowed to say no even if you aren’t busy. You don’t need to “earn” your rest. As Author Courtney Carver would say, <em>“Overwhelm, exhaustion, resentment, and having no idea what delights you anymore are a few of the signs and signals that indicate you’ve given yourself to everyone but YOU.”</em> My friend, your body desperately needs time to pause, restore, process, and heal. Be intentional about finding quiet moments. Listen to a meditation, calming music, or an audio book. Go for a walk. Listen to a sermon. Take a nap. Paint, mold clay, garden, do whatever you need to calm your adrenals and fill your soul. Maybe you even want to <strong>focus on quality family and friend time during these periods of rest. </strong>Loneliness and lack of deep connections can be the root causes of anxiety, depression, and chronic stress. Especially for introverted friends, this can be easier said than done—but so worth it.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
</li>



<li><strong>Grounding</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Ever wonder why it can feel so relaxing to take a walk on the beach? Getting your bare feet and bare hands in touch with the natural energy of the earth actually has incredibly therapeutic properties. Get in contact with grass, sand, dirt or concrete. Take a barefoot walk. Do some gardening with your bare hands. Touch some flowers. Hug a tree. Countless studies support the therapeutic benefits of grounding such as reduction of chronic inflammation, reduced pain, improved sleep and circadian rhythm balance, improved blood flow and reduce blood viscosity (making blood less sludgy), and acceleration of wound healing (from injury, surgery, etc)! This is a free resource we can ALL access!</li>
</ul>
</li>



<li><strong>Move your body.</strong>
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Movement is critical for your body—and mind and soul. It revs up endorphins, reduces anxiety and depression, supports blood flow and lymphatic flow, releases therapeutic constituents called exerkines that actually support our immune function, etc! You don’t need a 2-hour gym sesh to qualify as “exercise” or “movement.” Start with a walk, or even a few resistance training exercises. They’re categorized by different muscle groups!</li>

<li><strong>Soak up some sunshine.</strong>

<li>Get that free, natural Vitamin D to provide immune support, hormone support, and mental health support. Got low energy? Your cells RUN on sunlight. If you want to supercharge the mitochondria in your cells so they have the power to support your day to day activities, detox, and everything else you want to fuel in life, prioritize getting sun exposure (ideally at least 20 min of early day sun without being smothered in sunscreen, clothes that cover a large portion of the skin, or even sunglasses that keep the sun from entering the eyes (which is incredibly valuable for a cascade or processes within the body).&nbsp;</li>

<p>These were just a few things that my previous practitioners dismissed over the years.</p>



<p><strong><em>You know what I’d love to go back and say to some of my past “health experts”?</em></strong></p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Being so tired that I needed to take 2-3 naps a day, even after sleeping 8-10 hours every night, DIDN’T mean that I “had a Type A personality and just needed to relax”. It didn’t mean that I just “needed to workout a bit less” and that would solve my problems. (Yes, those were both responses that I received from previous docs).&nbsp; But it was a cry for help from my system that my mitochondria were damaged, my toxicity was high, and my cellular batteries couldn’t keep up with the demand anymore</li>



<li>Suffering from a lifetime of gut issues didn’t warrant a cookie-cutter answer of “You just have Irritable Bowel Syndrome… stock up on Tums and Pepto Bismol”. There were so many deeper root causes at hand.</li>



<li>The stool tests that came back negative for parasites should not have been used as the sole determining factor for addressing parasites, as I had countless signs and symptoms</li>



<li>Showing up at the E.R. in excruciating abdominal pain, only to have the staff run minimal blood work, and then give me a cup full of the equivalent of orange gatorade because “my potassium was just low” showed how broken our medical education system truly is. Years later I found out I had clear signs of Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth my now mainstream medical trained doc would ever know that.</li>
</ul>



<p><strong><em>I could go on, and on, and on…</em></strong></p>



<p>Even when they doubt you, even when they brush you off, even when they look at you like you’re crazy, know that you are not alone.</p>

<p>A driving force in my becoming an Integrative Health Practitioner was the fact that my own symptoms were dismissed by other practitioners FOR YEARS. I had to ultimately become my own best practitioner.</p>



<p>Over the last 10 years I’ve made it my mission to help you identify and address YOUR root causes so you don’t feel reliant on the broken, medical sickcare system.</p>



<p>Just like one-size clothing <em>never </em>fits all (or really anyone), neither do standardized medical treatments.</p>

<p><strong>My true root causes were not Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Acid Reflux, being Type A, “being in my head too much”, etc</strong></p>



<p>They actually were:&nbsp;</p>

<li>Lyme and coinfections like Babesia, Bartonella, and Mycoplasma</li>



<li>Mold exposure</li>



<li>Heavy metal toxicity</li>



<li>Parasites</li>



<li>Breast implant toxicity</li>



<li>A variety of environmental/industrial toxins – especially glyphosate</li>



<li>And unresolved trauma / nervous system dysregulation allowing all of these other issues to be so problematic&nbsp;</li>
</ul>



<p><strong>What I really needed was a massive detox and lifestyle changes </strong>— not more ADHD medication or a 3rd antidepressant that didn’t actually address any of my root causes.&nbsp;</p>



<p>But it wasn’t enough to just start dabbling in some functional medicine detoxes, gut protocols, adrenal resets, and the like. After transitioning into the functional medicine approach for about 5 years and having less improvement in symptoms than I initially anticipated, I realized something…</p>



<p><strong>Doing the<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> RIGHT things</span> in the<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> RIGHT order</span> matters.&nbsp;</strong></p>



<p>Even after someone has the realization, just as I did, that the conventional medical system is failing them, and they want to lean into functional and integrative medicine practices, many people continue to struggle with unresolved or recurrent health challenges because they either aren&#8217;t clear on what steps to take to begin with to get to these deeper root causes, OR they are taking many of the right steps, but in the WRONG order!</p>



<p><strong>Two of the biggest factors that I see missed when it comes to healing from chronic health challenges are:</strong></p>



<p>1) Knowing exactly how to support drainage pathways before taking the steps to comprehensively address the toxins and pathogens influencing your health (and continuing to support them along the way)</p>



<p>2) Understanding HOW to comprehensively detox the body to minimize detox reactions and reduce the likelihood of recurrent infections</p>



<p>After being in the functional medicine space for several years as a patient, I had found myself on this hamster wheel of gut detoxes, adrenal protocols, functional medicine detoxes, mold protocols, only to feel like <strong>I was at a standstill with my healing</strong>. I had gotten a better than I was when I was in conventional medicine care. And as grateful as I was for that progress, I knew there was so much more work to be done and there were still blindspots that my practitioners had to be missing.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you ever, or do know people, who have said things like:&nbsp;</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>“Well our family has been using THESE products (Tide, Downy, etc) for generations! They can’t be a problem.”</em></li>



<li><em>“But we’ve ALWAYS drank this city water / well water…”</em></li>



<li><em>“But our family has always eaten this way. This is just how we do it.”</em></li>



<li><em>“Well THIS is just how we’re raised to handle conflict/deal with life’s challenges. My parents and grandparents do the same thing”</em></li>



<li><em>“But everyone in my family is a night owl. That’s just how we are.”</em></li>
</ul>



<p><strong><em>But these same individuals can often say, “You know, [chronic fatigue, thyroid issues, bloating, brain fog, insert symptom here] run in my family&#8230;”</em></strong></p>



<p>I see this ALL THE TIME in my clinic . Heck, I used to say things like this all the time.</p>



<p>“Irritable Bowel Syndrome just runs in my family (as I lived on Kaopectate, Imodium, and Tums”</p>



<p>“Depression runs in my family (as every single one of us was on an antidepressant)”.</p>



<p>“The women in my family all have hormone issues (as we all leveraged birth control for balancing hormones, or other meds or surgeries to “resolve” the issue).</p>



<p>It took me decades to realize that just because a health challenge appears to be GENERATIONAL doesn’t mean it’s GENETIC. And even if there is genetic predisposition… there was WAY more to the story.</p>



<p>When I’m working with my private clients and we begin to dive deeper into THEIR personal case history, family health history, symptomatology, and maybe even some lab work, I’m able to more clearly show THEM how <em>“Just because the family used ‘this’ or did ‘that’”</em> for decade after decade, doesn’t mean it came without harm. And it’s not necessarily a coincidence that we’re all using the same products, following similar practices, and ending up with similar health challenges.</p>



<p>After doing a bit of digging together, it often becomes evident that their family members, and even friends or neighbors who can have many of the same practices or toxin exposures, also see generation after generation having similar health challenges to one another like high blood pressure, cancer, eczema or other skin issues, infertility, anxiety, depression, irritable bowel syndrome or other gut issues, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, thyroid issues, insomnia, etc.</p>



<p>And we could easily default to saying, “<em>[Insert health issue here] must run in the family.</em>” When in reality, these same toxic practices and exposures are ALSO running in the family🤔</p>



<p>Now, I’m not so ignorant as to say that genetics don’t play a role in our health. But I WILL forever advocate for the fact that we give genetics WAY more credit than they deserve while not talking nearly enough on the lifestyle and environmental choices that change the way these genes are expressed (more on that to come below).</p>



<p><strong><em><strong>Now, there are also situations where the symptoms that a client is dealing with DON’T appear to be “generational” or “genetic”.</strong></em></strong></p>



<p><strong>My friend, your body isn’t broken.</strong><strong><em> </em></strong><strong>It’s the health education system that’s broken.&nbsp;</strong></p>



<p>They’ve overlooked these root causes to weight loss resistance (and countless other health challenges) for far too long. And it’s time to end the gaslighting.</p>



<p>Some clients will say things like….</p>



<p><strong><em>“I just don’t get how my other family members CAN use those personal care products or cleaners, drink tap water, eat that garbage, and not be as sick as me! Why don’t they have the same symptoms that I do?!”</em></strong></p>



<p>But again, if we go down that rabbit hole together, they start to realize that their family members, while they may not currently have some of the same symptoms as they do, are not as healthy as they may imagine them to be. Their symptoms are often manifesting in different ways, but the compromised health is indeed still there. Our culture has normalized so many symptoms that we just look at them as “part of life” or “part of getting older” versus being red flags in our health! And this is often the case when we start to look at the health of our family members.</p>



<p><strong>Toxic environments and lifestyles run in families too </strong>(but they don’t have to).</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Toxin/pathogen load passed by birth</li>



<li>Water and air quality</li>



<li>Eating habits</li>



<li>Personal care product usage</li>



<li>Medical practices and choices (medication usage, vaccination choice, etc)</li>



<li>Generational trauma</li>



<li>Coping mechanisms&nbsp;</li>



<li>Stress Management techniques</li>
</ul>



<p>All can easily and sometimes subconsciously be passed down to new generations. But, <strong><em>we have [[so much more]] power than we realize.</em></strong></p>



<p><strong>Ever heard of something called Epigenetics?</strong></p>



<p>Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes that occur without changes in DNA sequence. (AKA: The study of how your environment and other factors can actually change the way genes are expressed – they can literally change your DNA)!</p>



<p>Depending on your lifestyle and environmental choices, this can work FOR you or AGAINST you. You can give your genes an “upgrade” and help them to be expressed in a healthier manner by making healthy lifestyle and environmental choices. <h5 class="wp-block-heading">Why You May Be Having Trouble Losing Fat In Your Mid-Section (and no, it’s not just a matter of eating less calories)…</h5>



<p>If you have fat that you’ve been 
trying to lose and it’s REALLY difficult for you to break through this 
weight loss plateau, especially in your midsection It seems like 
nothing’s working?… it is absolutely possible that you have heavy 
metals, toxic chemicals, and exposure to foods that you can’t fully 
digest, and that is CAUSING your body to hold on to more fat.</p>



<p><em>Here’s what I mean….</em></p>



<p><strong>Your body is freakin smart.</strong>
 When it’s exposed to something toxic, it produces white fat cells as a 
protective mechanism to keep toxins AWAY from your brain. So everytime 
that you’re taking in something toxic — whether it be pesticides on your
 food, heavy metals from toxic cookware, ingredients in implants 
(whether they be breast implants, IUDs, etc), mold exposure, or even 
consumption of foods that cause inflammation like dairy and gluten — <em><strong>your body will create white fat cells to surround that toxin, to protect your brain.</strong></em></p>



<p>And then once your body has created 
these toxic fat cells, its not too willing to release them. Your body 
can intentionally hold on to those fat cells with a death grip because 
it doesn’t want to allow them to get back into circulation and risk them
 harming your brain.</p>



<p><strong>So how do you get past this?</strong> <strong>How do you break this cycle when you already have higher fat stores.&nbsp;</strong></p>



<p>You need to improve your 
detoxification capabilities by reducing your body’s inflammation through

<p>In this video, I address how <strong>food addiction</strong> is indeed a real thing, and how you begin to recover.</p>



<p>This is a really important topic to 
discuss, and I don’t think there’s enough attention being drawn to it. 
Over 7 million people in the U.S alone struggle with food addiction.</p>



<p>Personally, I feel like society in 
general is happy to celebrate someone for their sobriety from alcohol or
 drugs, as they should! My own father has been sober for over 20 years 
and it’s absolutely something to celebrate! But when it comes to food 
addiction, we forget that it’s just as powerful. Recovery from food 
addiction It’s more than willpower. It’s more than drive and motivation.
 This addiction truly is a chemical reaction in your body that keeps you
 addicted to food. It’s a culmination of brain and body.</p>



<p>We must stop shaming people for making the healthiest choices they need to make to get through this addiction.</p>



<h5 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Science (what’s happening in your body):</strong></h5>



<p>Gluten and dairy can stimulate opiate
 receptors and trigger those “feel good” hormones called endorphins in 
the brain. And they produce that “feel good” response.</p>



<p>And THEN, on top of the fact that 
you’re getting this immediate endorphin release, the cycle perpetuates. 
Because once you’ve eaten those foods, they start altering the chemical 
makeup of your gut. And it starts having a will of its own, because it 
wants to survive. So it will send chemical messengers to your brain that
 say “ I want more…”</p>



<p>How do you break the cycle?</p>



<p>Rewire the brain through training the
 subconscious body, while resetting the body and the gut through 
specific nutritional adjustments. We do EXACTLY THIS in my 7 Day reset 
program.</p>

<p><strong>Full Video Transcription:</strong><br> <em>Hey
 there guys, it’s Lyss here and over the next 10 minutes I’m going to be
 addressing the question of whether or not you actually can be addicted 
to food. Like somebody can be addicted to drugs or alcohol. So as you 
guys are hopping on, whether you guys are watching me do this live or 
you are catching this as a replay someplace else, I want you to do me a 
favor and post your most desired comfort foods. Do me a favor and put in
 the comments right now, like your top two or three comfort foods. You 
know those days where you’re like you just had enough with people at 
work or your kids are driving you crazy or you just had a really 
stressful day and it’s like those foods that are just going to put you 
in a good mood or you want to relax with on the couch.</em></p>



<p><em> Do me a favor and put those in the comments. So I’m going to be 
talking to you guys about. first, why food addiction is spoiler alert, a
 real thing, a legitimate thing, and then how you can fix it. Guys, the 
reason that I want to address this is because I think it’s such an 
important topic. We have literally 70 million people (and this statistic
 is from 2016 from the food and Drug Administration), but over 70 
million people just in the U.S. alone struggle with food addiction. And 
so, you know, I come from a family where, you know, we’ve struggled with
 addiction in many different ways and so I’ve realized over the years I 
feel like society in general is a little bit more aware and supportive 
of celebrating people that are in sobriety from alcohol addiction or 
drug addiction. And my dad has been sober for 20-25 years and it’s like,
 it’s a huge accomplishment.</em></p>



<p><em> I mean I love when my newsfeed comes up filled with people that 
are celebrating their one year sober, two years sober, three years 
sober, a couple months sober. I think it’s such an incredible 
accomplishment. I just think that we also need to celebrate people that 
are going through food addiction and making it through there and we have
 to be easier on them. And so this, this training kind of came from a 
little bit of my selfish side of getting tired of seeing, you know, 
clients and people that are in my 7 Day Reset or doing any of my 
programs, having them just be shamed by people that are in their life, 
that are asking them to like go to Taco bell or go to dairy queen and 
get ice cream, or like go out to the bar one, two, three times a week 
and just make decisions that would take them further from their goals.</em></p>



<p><em> And it’s like people make them feel bad about it. And the way 
that I look at it and try to put it into perspective is I hope as a 
friend or a family member, if you had a friend or family member that was
 addicted to alcohol and you knew it was sober, I pray to God that you 
wouldn’t be inviting them to a bar and then getting pissed that they 
wouldn’t go with you. Right? Because you know that that’s going to steer
 them in the wrong direction, take them away from their goal and 
possibly bring them out of sobriety. And it’s the same thing with food. 
So guys, do me a favor. As you guys are hopping on like I said, I’m 
going to use this in just a minute. What are your top two or three 
comfort foods? And I’m going to talk to you about that in just a second.</em></p>



<p><em> I do have a reasoning behind that, but okay, so Sherry says 
chips and dip a Dr Pepper. Yes, drinks absolutely can do that. Some days
 anything will do, right? People just sometimes feel like they’re a food
 addict. It doesn’t necessarily even matter which specific food it is. 
Thank you for being so transparent, Sherry. I appreciate it. So guys, I 
just needed to kind of preface this as why I’m so passionate about 
talking about this because I just feel like as a society we, we do 
celebrate people that are recovering from other addictions and we don’t 
look at food as much of an addiction thing. I think a lot of people look
 at it as more of like a lack of willpower or a lack of motivation or a 
lack of drive and I’m here to help you understand that it actually is a 
chemical reaction, like a chemical response in your brain, in your body 
and you can reset it, which is part of what I do in my seven day reset.</em></p>



<p><em> We address the brain and the body part, but how many of you guys
 have ever felt like maybe you struggle with something but when you 
understand why it’s happening, it just helps it kind of put into 
perspective and you can just swallow it a little bit better. Like have 
you ever been sick or you’re experiencing certain symptoms and you know 
you go and you get a diagnosis from a doctor and it doesn’t necessarily 
mean that once you got that diagnosis that everything is better, but it 
helps you be able to just be like you’re not crazy and to feel like you 
can just kind of swallow it a little bit easier. Hey, has anybody else 
ever felt that way? I know I have. It just makes it a little bit easier 
to, to take on and to tackle. And so I feel like helping you guys 
understand the very like layman’s terms like science behind what is 
going on, the understanding that you’re not crazy for.</em></p>



<p><em> Yeah, you are being addicted to those chips or being addicted to
 the pasta or the breads. There is a reason why you’re craving that. Ben
 and Jerry’s like, it’s not just that you don’t have willpower, it’s not
 just that you don’t have self control. Is the brain important? Is 
Retraining, rewiring the brain important? Absolutely. But there’s a 
chemical reaction in your body. And so this is not just you being crazy 
and not having self control. This is literally something that is going 
on within you. So what happens here guys is most of the foods that you 
guys are commenting or describing have either gluten or dairy in them 
for a lot of things. And then sugar. Sugar has it’s own own level of 
addictive properties. But what happens guys is when you’re having gluten
 anything with wheat in it, you have your pastas, your breads, you know 
those Carby things, any type of dairy, I don’t care whether it’s ice 
cream, whether it’s really buttery popcorn, any type of dairy that’s in 
there, cheese, pizza, pizza’s got gluten and dairy, how many of you guys
 feel like pizza is super comforting to you guys?</em></p>



<p><em> They don’t call it comfort foods for nothing. It literally is 
triggering these opiate receptors in your brain that are the same 
receptors that can get activated by alcohol, activated by drugs, 
activated by certain medications, activated by like exercise. You get 
like that runners high, right? It actually is a chemical response that’s
 in your brain. So you instantly are getting this feel good response 
when you’re having any of these comfort foods. It’s called a comfort 
food because those neurotransmitters, those endorphins are comforting 
you. It’s not like your, your bag of chips or Ben and Jerry’s is sitting
 there petting you. You’re, you’re cuddling up with it. I mean, maybe 
you’re cuddling with it, but it’s because it’s comforting, literally 
chemically to your brain. So that’s that instant release of endorphins 
and then what’s happening guys, even worse yet, you’re not only getting 
that immediate like satisfaction from those foods, but once you start 
having them a couple of times and you have them repetitively, it’s 
starting to change the bugs in your gut.</em></p>



<p><em> So when you have sugar, when you have dairy, when you have 
gluten repetitively, you start to have more of like the bad bacteria in 
your gut. And then if you stop eating those, your gut’s smart. Like it 
starts to have a mind of its own now and it’s like, hmm, Alyssa stopped 
beating me this stuff. I’m going to send Chemical Messengers to the 
brain saying I need more of this now. Did you guys ever want to stop 
having certain foods? You really want to cut that Ben and Jerry’s out. 
You really want to stop having pasta every day. You really want to get 
rid of your total Bagel, baked food, donut, whatever addiction that you 
have. And it’s like you have withdrawal symptoms. It’s a real thing. You
 absolutely have food withdrawal and usually it’s happening between the 
first two and five days that you stop eating one of these types of 
foods.</em></p>



<p><em> This is why when I do my seven day reset program and we address a
 lot of this stuff, days two through five are typically the hardest for 
most people and then by the end of it they got everything reset. But not
 only are we rewiring their brain, but we got to do the rewiring of the 
gut. You’re literally resetting the, the bacteria and the cultures in 
your gut through certain nutritional changes in this program. So any of 
you guys out there, whether it’s you or somebody that you know that 
super struggles with being able to cut out certain foods that feels like
 they’re addicted to certain foods, addicted to food in general, feel 
like they can’t get a hold of their cravings and, and just being able to
 tackle this, this, this beast, this beast of feeling like, you know, 
you have some type of sadness or negative emotion in your life and you 
solve it with food.</em></p>



<p><em> Or just feeling like even if you are a happy person, why are you  addicted to food and why can’t you stop? There is a chemical reason for  it. And we work through it in the seven days of my seven day reset.  That’s just one of the benefits. So guys, please do me a favor. Because it absolutely is possible to break  this addiction and you know, as little as a week because you, you can  rebuild the cells in your gut in three to seven days, which is a big  portion of it. <h5 class="wp-block-heading">Guys, I used to be ADDICTED to popcorn.</h5>



<p>I’m not even kidding when I say that I would sit down with a bag and 
finish it before getting back up off the couch. I was ADDICTED. Boom 
Chicka Pop Sweet &amp; Salty Kettle Corn was my brand of choice.</p>



<p>It actually got SO BAD that my husband started to hide it from me. I 
think the most unique hiding spot was when he snuck it into the grill. 
But you bet your ass I found it!</p>



<p>Honestly, I didn’t think it was doing me much harm.</p>



<p>I mean, it’s literally just popped corn.</p>



<p>And the calorie count is pretty reasonable, so it’s probably one of the healthier snacks, right?</p>



<p><em>Mmmmm, not so much.</em></p>

<p>Many of us have heard that you shouldn’t rely solely on the scale to 
assess your weight loss progress. But if you’re anything like me or my 
clients, that can be REALLY hard to do. It’s a challenge to not value 
that number when it seems as though that’s ALL this world uses when 
evaluating successful weight loss.</p>



<p>We hear that muscle ways more than fat. We hear that we’re supposed 
to use other forms of measurement such as measurements, progress 
pictures, body fat assessment tools, etc.</p>



<p>But it’s not enough to just TELL you that these other forms of  measurement are more accurate. But I want you to understand exactly why  the number on the scale holds the least value of all so you can finally  have some clarity!</p>
